1. Don’t use shampoo or conditioner every day.

Not washing your hair every day is gross right? Not at all. In fact, frequent shampoo washing can strip essential oils from the hair, leaving it dry and damaged. Simply washing hair with water removes the day to day dirt. Rinsing hair with water in between washes helps keep hair looking fresh without stripping hair of its moisture.

So, if your hair is extra dry, using shampoo less and rinsing with water in between washes is a good idea. Generally, more greasy hair is going to require washing more often. Most people fall somewhere in the middle of these extremes and can wash their hair 2-5 times a week. It’s all about finding the balance that works for you.

2. Condition the right way for maximum results.

How hard can conditioning be? Put the conditioner in my hair, rub it in and wash it off. But there is so much more to it. Hair tends to be greasy near the roots. For this reason, little or no conditioner is needed in this area. Focus on getting the conditioner to the dry parts of the hair, especially the ends.

Distributing conditioner through the hair with a wide-toothed comb can help to ensure all parts of the hair are getting conditioner. Designate a comb to keep in the shower to distribute the conditioner more evenly.

3. Use lukewarm or cold water when rinsing off.

This is one of the most important hair care tips, but most often forgotten. Hair carries essential oils that help keep moisture in. Cold water may be a bit too much for most when rinsing off. But try to find a medium balance between hot and cold water to prevent drying out your hair too much.

4. Change your hair part. Sometimes the easiest hair care tips go a long way.

Part your hair in a different area and immediately notice your roots have more lift.

5. Brush when blow-drying.

Using a brush when you blow dry your hair can make a huge difference with the hair finish. Use a brush and you can expect to achieve a smooth finish. To help add volume or curl, use a round brush.
